Important Tips to Help You Maintain Your Maintenance Goal

  1. Adopt some kind of exercise program.

 

There are two forms of exercise that you should add to your daily regimen. It is beneficial to have a mix of aerobic and anaerobic exercise to have the most significant impact on your muscle mass and resting metabolic rate. Almost 100 percent of patients that are successful after weight loss surgery adopt some form of exercise regime by the time they are in their maintenance phase.

 

  1. Check in frequently, and often.

 

The biggest mistake patients in maintenance tend to make is getting too comfortable. If you stop tracking your weight and your intake, you have no idea where you are in regards to your weight loss progress. Also, if you do not track your calories and carbohydrates often, typically you are overeating. This can over time cause weight gain that you don’t notice.

 

  1. Experiment with taste.

 

One big issue for patients after weight loss surgery is boredom with their diet. This does not need to be the case. Experiment with different flavors through spices, herbs, and citrus. Also, branch out into other forms of protein such as game meats, and sea creatures.

 

  1. Attend support groups often.

 

Accountability is often a big motivator for patients post weight loss surgery. Going to support groups often help you be accountable for your current weight and also allows you to feel like you are not alone in the weight loss surgery process. You can also learn great tips from your medical team and patients just like you!
